We stopped in here as we were touring Montepulciano. We asked about a tour, and they said that the tours are at 15:00. We were going to come back, but as we were heading out, the grandson of the owner stopped us and told us he had time to do a tasting.
We heard about the winery, and how it has been in his family for centuries.
We liked the wine so much we decided to sit down and have a bite to eat, we tried the chacuterie board and were pleasantly surprised. We would definitely come back to this wonderful hidden treasure.
Best winery in Montepulciano! The owner was gracious and we loved all of the wines we tasted
Atmosphere was really nice as was the staff. Great local wines. Take a few minutes to visit their cool wine cellar!
We rented and apartment in Montepulciano for a month, and our favorite place ended up being the Gattavecchi Winery. It is one of the real wine cellars that is actually used in the town, and is not a commercial come-on -- you have to find it. Gattavecchi is located near the fort under the Church of Santa Maria which was a 12th century convent. It almost goes unnoticed. However, upon our first visit we were warmly greeted and we had a delicious lunch and wonderful bottle of wine. The wild boar stew and the Reserva was a perfect match, and that started a whole string of events for us.
super friendly service ... warm welcome ... amazing wine!
Daniela and her brother were so gracious and welcoming offering to open for a wine tasting and food for us! Everything was delicious and their hospitality was the icing on the cake!
We got very lucky when we found Gattavecchi. Tasting was a great experience, and their wine is now a staple for us
